I will say that there are good people in these area, but the areas have a higher crime rate. Areas like Cordova, midtown, and east Memphis along with the suburbs have lower crime rates.

Just do the little things you’d do in any city: don’t flash money around, hang around poorly lit and poorly trafficked areas, or pick fights. If you’re staying in mainly tourist areas like downtown, midtown, cooper young, etc you’ll be fine.

Midtown as a whole is pretty safe and nice, there are some random areas that are sketchy, but i would not be to worried. Stay north of Southern Ave. The problem with midtown is that the nice areas are right next to the bad area.. that said, I live in Midtown and love it. When in Midtown look at the front porches.
